These cylindrical wooden vessels are carved with great skill by the pastoral Bahima people who used these vessels to collect lmilk, store honey & butter.  Byanzi are wonderfully sculptural vintage wooden milk container known as ekyanzi, made in Uganda Africa by the Bahima or Hima tribe. These types of vessels were used for holding cow milk. Traditionally these jugs are hand carved from wood of the omusisa tree and are frequently seen with a protective woven spiral cover over the opening. Often these vessels take on a blackened patina from use and/or storage next to fire and soot. From the estate of a local antiques dealer.
